Queer, I like people!
as reported in Bay Windows by Ethan Jacobs staff reporter
Wednesday July 2nd 2008 and UPDATED July 3 2008

When Nick Teich created a free account on the online personals site BisexualDatingNow.com last week, he decided to disclose that he is transgender. Perhaps he shouldn’t have.

"They say, tell us about yourself in your own words. And I stated, ’I’m a 25-year old trans guy living in Boston.’ . . . I didn’t want to mislead anyone looking at my profile, so that’s why I put that," said Teich. Within a day he had received three "smiles," which members send to express their interest in getting to know each other.

Teich thought little of his decision until he wrote to the site’s customer service staff about a problem he was having using the site. He exchanged e-mails with a customer service representative named Kiar Dupuis, and after reading his profile Dupuis informed him that the site does not allow transgender users.

"I am sorry, as a transgender, our site would not meet your needs. I am afraid we have to remove your profile," wrote Dupuis, according to an e-mail provided to Bay Windows by Teich. His profile was deleted shortly after he received the e-mail.

Two polling experts are questioning a recent Human Rights Campaign (HRC) survey that asked gays for their opinions about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).

this letter & accompanying article sent to us from the New England LGBT Veterans

Friends,

Today is Veteran's Day. After what happened in the House Wednesday (ENDA Passes House Without Trans Protections), I don't feel much like wanting to be an American any longer. I'm not even going to march in the Atlanta Veteran's Day Parade with the other GLBT veterans as I planned.

ransgender people have been in every war, served in every branch of the service, have achieved every rank and have been awarded every medal this country has, including the Congressional Medal of Honour. We have done every job the military has, served in every base, port, ship, drove every vehicle, operated every weapon, flown every aircraft and served in every hospital the American military has. We have done our part to preserve the freedom of everyone in this country. If you ask us, we will tell you that we are veterans first, who just happen to be transgender people. And, we are proud to have served this great country.

Since the mainstream media has seen fit to overlook this important topic we have chosen to X-post this this letter & accompanying article to honour both Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day (November 11th) as well as Transgender Day of Remembrance (November 20th). Perhaps you might also wish to do the same and pass it on down the line.

No ENDA without "T"

FYI - there is a transphobic film making the rounds at LGBT Film Fests nationwide, slipping in under the radar of "sci-fi." The film depicts a "scary future" of transsexuals and the hero is a lesbian saved from the trans people by the "butch rescue squad." SF's Frameline Festival was unaware of this film's hateful message when it programmed it for the sci-fi venue and SF is now seriously evaluating how to solve this issue and WILL DECIDE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. Please give your input to Frameline: michael@frameline.org, info@frameline.org (and to your own local festivals) and please also sign the petition.
